SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Authorities investigating a report of an underage marriage plan a fourth day of searching for children and documents at a compound built by jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs south of this West Texas city. Authorities moved more than 220 women and children from Eldorado to a historic fort-turned-museum here Sunday so that all the children and women could stay in one location as caseworkers continue interviews, said Child Protective Services spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner. So far, only 18 children have been legally put in state custody, but Meisner said more court action was likely Monday. State troopers armed with a search warrant raided the 1,700-acre ranch on Friday to look for evidence of a marriage between a teen who called authorities a week ago.

Arkansas Fixes Toddler Marriage Loophole
What had turned into a kind of marriage crisis in Arkansas is over. Gov. Mike Beebe signed legislation repealing a poorly worded law that had the effect of letting anybody get married as long as they had the permission of a parent. When the measure was approved last year, the intent was to set 17 as the minimum marriage age for boys and 16 for girls. The only exception would be girls who are pregnant and they would need permission. But the final version had an extraneous word, "not." It read: "In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage." .
